Smaller Alexa rank means your blog received lots of traffic especially from users who have Alexa Toolbar installed in their computers. Thus, bigger Alexa rank means bad news to some as some sites take in account your Alexa rank to determine your blog eligibility to participate in their money making program.
Without good ranking, you may miss (or not qualify for) those money making opportunities.
My blog traffic itself have no downward movement because it still attract re-direction of visits from search engines. In some days, the blog traffic in fact enjoyed an increase.
So what attribute to the drop in my Alexa ranking? Below are the possibilities:
1) Auto-surfing in order to gain automated traffic. But I did not use auto-surfing to gain traffic as this blog has been receiving steady stream of traffic from search engines and direct traffics.
2) Frequent visitors to this blog may have stop visiting.
3) Frequent visitors to this blog may have use other browse that does not have the Alexa Toolbar plugin.
For my analysis of this blog traffic, of lately, most visitors are using FireFox to visit this blog. It account for over 50% compare to other browsers. Internet Explorer 6.x and 7.x combined only contribute about 30% of the browsers total.
How to increase your blog or website Alexa ranking? Here are some ideas:
1) Install Alexa widget on your site. It may not be very effective but it does help.
2) Educate visitors to install Alexa Toolbar. Alexa use information gathered by their Toolbar to analysis your traffic and thereby will be able to give you accurate ranking.
3) For FireFox users, please install Alexa Sparky which can show a sparkline traffic trend.
You may argued that Alexa ranking does not play any roll in money making efforts because the rank is not accurate due to its confinement of analytical data from users with Alexa Toolbar. Well, you are half right. But if you have a good Alexa ranking, it will look good on your blog or website. In addition, there is no harm in engaging those users with Alexa Toolbar. Who knows, they might be your customer one day.
For non-Alexa Toolbar users, we can also educate them to install Alexa Sparky. Anyway, Alexa Sparky is a cool utility that can give you quick information on other blogs or websites that you visited. With information provided by Sparky, you may also learn a thing or two from other blogs that you can adopt or practiced.
